Al Nigro – Bass, Vocals
Al Nigro is a native of South Florida, and has been playing around the area for the past 30 years. After high school, Al attended Musician’s Institute in Hollywood, CA, where he won the Most Improved Bassist award for that year, dedicating all his time to improving as a bass player. Upon returning to South Florida, Al attended MDCC in downtown Miami, where he was in the top Jazz ensemble for several years, playing with such notable musicians as Jonathan Kreisberg and David Siegel. He then transferred to the University of Miami where he studied with Don Coffman and Matt Bonelli, graduating with honors from the School of Music/Jazz program.
Al has played many different genres over the years, including Jazz, Country, Rock, Pop, Blues, Funk, as well as a great deal of Musical Theater work. While playing with Ray Rivard and the Brass Cats, he opened for the likes of Wayne Newton, Frank Sinatra, Jr., Smokey Robinson, and Ray Charles, just to name a few, and has performed with local Country artist Tommy Dalton, opening for Florida Georgia Line, Tyler Farr, and Jake Owen. Al has also been on several recording projects, including projects with local guitarists Eric Hansen and Dan Warner. Al started playing the local Rock scene (after a brief hiatus) with the band SeKond Nature in 2007, and has been on the scene ever since, recently playing with local cover bands such as SLEJJ (until the unfortunate and untimely loss of the late and great Scott Goodman) and Furious George (with his good friend George Volpe, which still get together for the occasional show now and then).
Al currently works for Alfred Publishing (formerly Warner Bros. Publications), where he has been a Supervising Editor for the past 20 years, working on everything from Bass methods to Guitar transcriptions to Concert and Jazz band arrangements, contributing on projects with such performers and writers as Bob Mintzer, Joel DiBartolo, Victor Wooten, and Steve Bailey. Al currently lives in Plantation with his beautiful wife Stephanie and their blended family, feeling both honored and privileged to work with the amazing, incredibly talented musicians that comprise the Wildfire band.
